This Hebmüller VW Type 14A body itself was completed in Wülfrath, Germany as one of the 25 extra bodies produced @ 1950 for the VW Customer Service Spare Parts Department as part of the contract VW AG had with the Hebmüller Coachwerks. One of those completed extra spare parts bodies from VW Customer Service that was stamped with the “Aufbau Number” 14-00715 was shipped to VW dealership MAHAG in Munich at some point in 1950. The car body was later mated with a complete spare VW chassis number 1-0202124 from the VW Customer Service Department and assembled wholly at MAHAG. The VW Cabrio 14-00715 was first registered to the MAHAG Automobilhandel und Service GmbH & Co. itself on April 25, 1951. The MAHAG VW Cabrio was finished with a custom leather interior and kept in proud service by MAHAG. A Kraftfahrzeugbrief (title of a car – KFZ Brief) is issued by the Kraftfahrtbundesamt which is the top authority in Germany for registering cars. Overtime, MAHAG eventually sold the VW Cabrio 14-00715 in 1957. The original KFZ Brief shows 5 owners in total, who never removed the car from the Munich area. After some time, the VW Cabrio was finally removed from road service (decommissioned) in 1980 as it needed very costly roadworthy repairs and was then parked in a barn for 27 years. The VW Cabrio 14-00715 was finally acquired in 2007 by Mr. Tom Kaiser of Freising, Bavaria, and delivered to the Grundmann Automotive Workshop for a complete restoration which lasted two years. The car finally debuted at the historic Hebmüller VW line-up in Hessisch Oldendorf in 2009 wearing its original US Zone - Bavaria license plate number of B 49-3636. In the meantime, the current owner, Mr. Lloyd Kee is an avid collector of well - documented Hebmüller VW cars. He will include VW Cabrio 14-00715 in his “Hebmüller Evolution Collection” & Museum in Washington, USA. (BG)
